Commenting on employee requests to extend the holiday break, Suneer Kumar, Partner at Alsuwaidi & Company, noted that while employees may apply for annual leave, approval remains subject to the employer’s discretion and operational requirements.

“As per the UAE Labour Law, employees may apply for annual leave; however, such leave remains subject to managerial approval,” Kumar explained.

Pursuant to Article 29(4) of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, employers may determine annual leave dates according to work requirements and in agreement with the employee, in order to ensure continuity of business operations.
