Started his career in the shipping and logistics sector in 1992, Abdelhak is a seasoned litigator in the UAE who brings to Al Suwaidi extensive experience in handling complex and multifaceted cross-border shipping disputes, especially matters of contentious nature involving cross-border ship finance, cargo claims, charter parties, ship arrest, air cargo claims, shipbuilding and conversion and international trade of commodities.
Abdelhak has particular expertise in the enforcement and recognition of judgments and arbitral awards in the region, often advising on the enforcement of decrees or awards which encroach on multijurisdictional concerns. Abdelhak has a strong track record in handling enforcement of arbitral awards issued by arbitration associations and/or centres such as the LMAA and the LCIA.
Abdelhak’s deep understanding of maritime laws enables him to effectively represent his client’s interests while managing their legal and contractual risks in an efficacious manner. He boasts an established network within the maritime and trading community, and often works for and alongside international financial institutions, multinational companies, and international law firms, including those from the magic circle.

Abdelhak is UK qualified maritime and international trade lawyer he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Law from London Metropolitan University and an LL.M in International Trade Law from the University of Northumbria. His common law qualification was complemented by a civil law practice in Algeria and UAE.
Abdelhak joined Alsuwaidi & Company in April 2014. Having assumed the role as a former in-house counsel in a reputable shipping and logistics company, Abdelhak acquired strong negotiation skills and market intelligence in the shipping industry.
He is a trilingual Arabic, English and French speaker at international conferences on transport, logistics and maritime arbitration, as well as a regular contributor to different specialized magazines and journals on various related topics.
