Top contractual Issues – The Practical and the Civil Code

A complimentary seminar to be held at in the Conference Center on the ground floor of Emarat Atrium Building on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai on Wednesday 5 March 2014 at 9:00 am.


This seminar will address the practical methods of addressing key construction project issues and key construction contract terms. The presentations are educative, insightful and will provide real help in ensuring effective and profitable contracts. The speakers are an international lawyer practicing as a partner at Al Suwaidi & Company, a Legal 500 and Chambers ranked law firm, and a director from Blair Anderson, an award-winning construction consultancy, with more than 25 years of experience, and an enviable track record of major projects in the Middle East, Europe, and West Africa. Blair Anderson provides a full spectrum of cost management, project management, and dispute resolution consultancy services.


Practical advice and specific legal applications drawn from the speakers’ more than 25 years UAE and Gulf experience will be offered. The presentation will have a particular focus on common contractor and subcontractor issues and provide guidance on key provisions of the UAE Civil Code relevant to construction contracts.

About the Speakers

Faisal Ismail

Director, Blair Anderson

Faisal is a Director of Blair Anderson. He specializes in arbitration and dispute resolution services and has experience under many of the leading institutional arbitration rules (DIAC, ADCCAC, ICC, and UNCITRAL). Faisal is involved in a wide range of construction-related disputes and arbitration cases as an advocate, arbitrator, Expert Witness, and as litigation support specialist which involved providing support with the preparation of a statement of claims, defense documents, and counterclaims, witness statements, Expert Witnesses Support, and various other arbitration standard submissions and correspondence.

Faisal is also experienced in the preparation of contractual claims including drafting of the statement of entitlement, review of contractual obligations, analytical review of programs and establishment of cause & effect to prove delay & disruption; and preparation of cost/quantum claims in relation to disruption, prolongation, and acceleration.

Nigel Truscott

Partner, Al Suwaidi & Company

Nigel is a solicitor and practicing arbitrator, being registered with the DIAC and ICC.
